SignuptoSing, the Saffron Walden Youth Choir, is inviting everyone to take part in a SINGING MARATHON in the Town Hall on Saturday 29th June. The non-stop seven-hour relay of song is in aid of the Mayor’s Charity SWOP – Saffron Walden’s Opportunities Playgroup. To keep the singing going SignuptoSing want to enlist the help of everyone in the community who has ever enjoyed singing – whether as singers or listeners.
Everyone is especially invited to the ‘join-in’ sessions. These will be led by a group of singers and word sheets will be provided to help the singing along. The timings of the join in sessions are:
9.30–9.45am Nursery Songs toddlers and their families especially welcome
11.10–11.30am Fun Family Sing songs for everyone to join in
1.00–1.20pm Music Hall Favourites to take you back to the good old days
1.30–2.00pm Les Misérables fab numbers from the film and stage musical
3.05–3.25pm Campfire Songs to warm you up
3.30–4.00pm Proms Finale including Rule Britannia and the Hallelujah Chorus
In between these sessions there will be all kinds of solo performances as well as songs from local singing groups. Joining the SignuptoSing youth choir to take part during the day will be St Mary’s choristers and children from various local schools as well as adult choirs including Joanna Eden’s Singing Group and the Saffron Walden Music Hall Society. To round off the event singers from many groups, including Saffron Walden Choral Society, will launch into Land of Hope and Glory and other proms favourites.
Listeners will be just as welcome as singers all through the day.
As part of the event, from 9am till 4pm, SignuptoSing will also be running a CHORAL CAFE at the back of the hall, where you can come for coffee and homemade cakes while enjoying the music.
