Our next Social Event is something a bit different! We are holding a Poetry Evening in Saffron Walden, kindly hosted by Tessa Hawkes. The first part of the session will be poems from the floor – so do bring along a poem or two, either your own, or written by someone else whose work you enjoy. All styles and subjects are welcome. Don’t worry if you don’t wish to read the poems out yourself; we’ll find someone willing to do so on your behalf.
After a short break for refreshments, there will be a reading from our guest poet, Jessica Dickinson. Jess is a poet and playwright from Saffron Walden, and is poet in Residence for the Saffron Walden Poetry Club. She has been working with Uppercut Productions to promote her poetry anthology “Light Loss Clan Dark Land”. She was once called the “Bridget Jones of Poetry” and often writes about being a young woman trying to make sense of modern life. She says she is passionate that poetry should reach out to all and entertain even the most reluctant reader. Her work covers many subjects, from the woes of modern technology, to the effect of new-build houses on rural market towns.
We can expect some edgy and provocative work from her!
The event is free to all members of Saffron Walden Arts Trust. Guests are welcome at a cost of £5 if they do not wish to join the Trust. Please bring along a small contribution of food/drink to share. If you don’t have Tessa’s address, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org for details.
