Essex Craft Society’s Summer Exhibition @ Thaxted Guildhall

A rigorous selection procedure ensures that some of the finest makers in the county will be showing jewellery, weaving, embroidery, printed textiles, woodturning, indigo silks, furniture, calligraphy and etching in this exquisite mediaeval Guildhall.

Timed to coincide with Thaxted’s popular Music Festival, other attractions include a stunning church, old Almshouses and a windmill.  Award-winning Poppy’s Tea Room offers delicious homemade cakes, sandwiches and an array of teas and coffees.  There will be a temporary Festival Bar in Clarance House.

The exhibition is open from 11am-5pm each day.

Creative Writing Workshop with Clare Mulley @ Saffron Walden Museum

A unique writing workshop workshop experience with Clare Mulley organised by the Saffron Walden Arts Trust in conjunction with Saffron Walden Museum’s exhibition From Death Masks to Diaries’

 Agenda:

1.30 pm: A short talk on the author’s approach to biographical writing

2 pm: A guided tour by Museum staff of their ‘From Death Masks to Diaries’ exhibit

2.30-4 pm: Write a short piece of biographical writing inspired by the exhibition, with guidance by Clare and SWAT volunteers

4 -4.30 pm: An opportunity to share writing and discuss experience with group

Clare Mulley is an award-winning author and broadcaster. Her first book, The Woman Who Saved the Children, won the Daily Mail Biographers’ Club Prize, and The Spy Who Loved, now optioned by Universal Studios, led to Clare being decorated with Poland’s national honour, the Bene Merito. Clare’s third book, The Women Who Flew for Hitler, tells the extraordinary story of two women at the heart of Nazi Germany, whose choices put them on opposite sides of history. Clare reviews non-fiction for the Telegraph, Spectator and History Today. A popular public speaker, she has given a TEDx talk at Stormont, spoken at the Houses of Parliament, Royal Albert Hall, Imperial War Museum, National Army Museum and British Library, as well as many festivals. Recent TV includes the BBC’s Rise of the Nazis, and the D-Day 75 coverage, NewsnightDavid Jason’s Secret Service, and Adolf & Eva, Love & War.
